The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is set to begin work this month on a major expansion project at the Accra International Airport as part of efforts to modernise infrastructure and improve passenger experience.

The spokesperson to President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, in a social media post on Friday, April 3, 2026, disclosed that the project is part of “an ambitious programme to expand and modernize facilities at the Accra International Airport.”

He disclosed that the key component of the initiative is the construction of “an ultra-modern Concourse connecting Terminals 2 and 3 to ease congestion and provide world-class, high-end facilities for the traveling public.”

The new concourse is expected to significantly enhance passenger flow and comfort, particularly at peak travel periods when congestion has been a recurring challenge at the airport.

Details of the project indicate that the facility will include “5 new Passenger Boarding Bridges,” along with “5 passenger holding areas” to improve boarding processes.

In addition, the concourse will feature “bi-directional Travelators” to ease movement within the terminal, as well as “5 new escalators and elevators” to improve accessibility.

For premium travelers, the development will incorporate “1 VIP Lounge” and “4 Business Lounges,” while also boosting commercial activity with “4 new retail/Duty Free Pods among others.”
