The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted two watchmen at Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School following an alleged sexual assault involving a student.
The two men have been arrested and handed over to the police as investigations into the incident get underway.
The GES said preliminary information available to management indicates that the student is a special needs student who is on medication.
According to the service, the student suffered a relapse on the day of the alleged incident and needed medical attention.
It was during that period that the alleged assault is reported to have taken place.
The GES said it took immediate action by ensuring that the two watchmen were placed in police custody and interdicted from duty.
“As an initial step, the two watchmen were arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation. In addition, Management has interdicted them with immediate effect,” the Service said in a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The service said it would rely on the findings of the ongoing investigations in determining the next steps in the matter.
It said any further sanctions would be imposed in line with the GES Code of Conduct and the laws of Ghana.
The GES has meanwhile reminded its staff of their duty to protect students and uphold professional standards in schools.
It said the safety, dignity and welfare of students must remain a priority for every member of the Service.
“Management cautions all staff of the Service to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and to protect the safety, dignity and wellbeing of every student,” it said.
The service further warned that it would not tolerate behaviour that puts students at risk or compromises their welfare.
It assured parents, guardians and the wider public that the allegation is being treated seriously and that appropriate action will follow the outcome of the investigations.
