The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all Heads of Senior High Schools across the country to immediately refund any monies collected from students, parents, or guardians for the 2025 WASSCE practical examinations.
In an official letter issued on Monday, July 28, 2025, and signed by the Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), Prof. Smile Dzisi, the GES expressed concern over reports that some school heads had collected funds from candidates and their families despite the government’s provision of full funding for the practicals.
“The Government of Ghana has released full funding to cover the costs of the 2025 WASSCE practical examinations, including all required materials and resources,” the statement emphasized.
The directive outlines three key actions for heads of institutions involved in the unauthorized collections:
1. Refund all monies collected for WASSCE practicals.
2. Ensure proper documentation of the refund process, including the issuance of official receipts as proof of repayment.
3. Notify the respective Regional Directors once the refunds have been made.
GES stressed that the directive is aimed at reducing the financial burden on students and parents, and to ensure that no learner is excluded from participating in the exams due to the inability to pay.
The statement warned that failure to comply with the directive would be considered a serious breach of official instructions and could attract administrative sanctions.
