The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that government has approved the payment of salary arrears owed to eligible staff.

In a letter dated April 20, 2026, GES said the Ministry of Finance has granted clearance for the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to begin payment of the arrears, covering the period from August 2024 to November 2025.

According to the Service, the arrears will be paid in instalments over a number of months to ease the financial burden on the state.

The payment schedule shows that staff will receive four months’ arrears each in May, June, July, and August.

GES has directed all Regional Directors to communicate the development to heads of schools to ensure that affected staff are duly informed.

The move is expected to bring relief to teachers and other education workers who have been awaiting payment of the outstanding salaries.
