A 31-year-old Ghanaian man has been arrested in Germany for allegedly raping a 23-year-old woman in the presence of her boyfriend.

The man, an asylum seeker in Germany, is said to have threatened the woman and her boyfriend with a machete before carrying out the act.

He was reportedly arrested at Siegaue Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Bonn during a camping, local media reported.

The police were called by the victim’s boyfriend after the incident and his partner was taken to the hospital.

The suspect whose name was not given was arrested nearby Siegburg following a tip-off.

DNA testing matched the Ghanaian to the crime scene.

Police spokesman Robert Scholten is quoted by the German media as saying “Apart from the rape itself, we also found lots of DNA samples at the scene, which clearly belong to the detained person."
