The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and SIC Life Insurance Ltd (SIC Life) have taken an important step toward securing the future of Fire Officers by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on life insurance.
The MoU also establishes a Welfare Fund for Fire Officers which will be Funded by the total annual premium from GNFS and is expected to provide support to retired officers and their families.
Speaking at the signing ceremony on Monday in Accra, the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, expressed gratitude to President Mahama for his support and vision for this initiative.
He emphasized on the high risks fire officers face in their line of duty and stressed the importance of providing insurance coverage to support and encourage them in serving the nation with courage and commitment.
He commended Chief Fire Officer Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the first female to hold the position, for her dedication and outstanding service.
In her remarks, Chief Fire Officer Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong expressed gratitude to SIC for the collaboration and assured that she would do everything possible to ensure the success of the insurance scheme.
The Managing Director of SIC, Mr. Solomon Twum Barimah, thanked the Minister for the initiative and noted that the insurance package will cover critical illnesses and assured that SIC will continue to enhance the package to reflect the valuable contributions of fire officers to national development.
The insurance scheme will benefit all GNFS staff and SIC Life will engage with staff to educate them on the scheme and its advantages. GNFS will also establish a welfare fund to support retired officers, administered by the Chief Fire Officer.
