The government says it has paid two months of salary arrears owed to newly recruited nurses and has set out plans to employ thousands more health workers this year.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health said the payments form part of efforts to support the workforce and improve service delivery.
It added that a further three months of payments, covering May to July 2026, will be made as previously announced.
The ministry said it is working towards recruiting about 16,000 health workers this year. So far, financial clearance has been secured for around 8,000 positions, with efforts ongoing to cover the rest. It stressed that no health worker would be employed without confirmed funding.
Officials said the clearances have been distributed across health facilities to support the gradual intake of staff.
The ministry also maintained that its recruitment portal remains the only official channel for applications, describing it as a measure to ensure transparency and fairness.
However, it acknowledged that high demand has led to challenges for some applicants trying to access the system, causing concern among candidates.
The ministry said it is working to address these issues and secure additional clearance to accommodate more qualified applicants.
It also urged anyone facing difficulties or seeking clarification to contact its Human Resource for Health Development Directorate for assistance.
