Gov’t reviews Bawku and Nalerigu curfews

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, following the guidance of the National Security Council and through an Executive Instrument, has announced a revision of the curfew hours for Bawku, Nalerigu, and the surrounding areas.

This was announced in a separate statement signed by the Minister and issued on July 30, 2025.


Starting today, Thursday, July 31, 2025, the curfew will be from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., changing from the previous hours of 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

These new regulations will apply to the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region, as well as the East Mamprusi Municipality in the North East Region.

The government has also appealed to chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth, and community members to remain calm and engage in peaceful and constructive dialogue to resolve local issues.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality, Nalerigu Township and their environs in the East Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons, and any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

The statements added that the government remains committed to restoring peace and security in the region and encourages all stakeholders to contribute to maintaining law and order.
