Government mourns passing of Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II

The Government of Ghana has expressed sadness over the death of the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II.

In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama extended his condolences to the Royal Family, the people of Dagbon and all Ghanaians.

The President described the late Yaa Naa as a respected traditional ruler whose leadership brought peace, unity and reconciliation to Dagbon after years of conflict.

He said the King's commitment to stability and development strengthened the relationship between traditional authorities and the government, helping to promote progress in Dagbon and across the country.

President Mahama also praised Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II for his service to the nation and said his wisdom, leadership and dedication to peace would continue to inspire future generations.
