The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has donated medical equipment valued at $1.5 million to the Ga North Municipal Hospital.
The donation, according to the minister, is part of government’s plan to strengthen existing health facilities across the country. He said the move followed a surprise visit where he discovered that the hospital was operating without some essential resources.
The items, numbering more than 30, include anaesthesia machines, incubators, nebulisers, ECG machines, steam sterilisers, stethoscopes, hospital beds, delivery sets, and ward screens, among others.
Mr Akandoh stressed that the equipment represents a major capital investment and called on the hospital management to maintain them properly for the benefit of patients. He explained that quality healthcare delivery depends not only on building new facilities but also on providing the needed resources to existing ones.
Receiving the items, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Victor Caesar, expressed deep gratitude to the minister and government. He said the staff were especially relieved to have anaesthesia machines, which had been urgently needed for years.
Dr Caesar assured that the hospital will ensure proper maintenance, adding that the facility has always made good use of medical resources entrusted to it.
