Former Ghanaian High Commissioner to the UK has urged President Akufo-Addo to do all it takes to ensure the fight against corruption is a success.

Victor Smith says, the canker of corruption will render all the good policies of the government worthless if it is not eradicated.

His comments come on the heels of pledges by the Akufo-Addo administration to strengthen the war on corruption with the appointment of an independent prosecutor.

The President reiterated his commitment to eradicating corruption in a meeting with the Ghanaians community in Sierra Leone, when he paid a working visit to Freetown.

He intimated that not even the first lady nor anyone close to him, could convince him to stop prosecuting any corrupt official, especially in his government, adding that once you are found guilty, the person will be prosecuted

Speaking on Asempah FM's Ekosii Sen programme today Victor Smith observed the President had a difficult task to achieve, given the way corruption has moved into every fabric of our social life.

According to him, public officers are getting away with massive corruption because they are not forced to abide by the laws of the land.

The former High Commissioner cautioned the President not to tamper justice with mercy in dealing with corrupt officials found to have misappropriated public funds.

Mr Smith continued that “If we plug the loopholes in the system, we will need to make less borrowing to push the agenda of development”.
