The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Gomoa East Constituency has described as unfortunate attempts to attribute the Kintampo tragedy to the activities of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Invincible Forces.

According to him, though he was not in support of any unlawful behaviour of the Invincible Forces, he believes the tragedy at Kintampo was a natural one and could not be blamed on any particular human activity.

Nineteen persons, mostly students of Wenchi Methodist SHS in the Brong Ahafo, died last Sunday after trees from the top of a hill fell on them following a heavy rainstorm while they were swimming at the Kintampo Waterfalls where they had gone on an excursion.

A day after, a chief in the Kintampo area, Nana Essah Boakuro revealed that the facility had been taken over by the NPP vigilante group and that there was no properly trained tour guide at the scene during hence the inability to forestall or minimise the impact of the disaster. in the that there were

This has led to the condemnation of the Invincible Forces with many calling for the disbandment of the group and the arrest of its members.

But speaking on Citi FM's Big Issue on Saturday, Mr Asemanyi stated that "it's unfortunate that the chief is trying to link what happened in Kintampo to actions of some persons".

"I don't support anybody which has not been recognised by the state but it's not the Invincible Forces or the actions of people that made the trees fall at Kintampo", he added.

For him, it would be better to assess the general maintenance practices of such places rather than blaming the disaster on some persons.

"We need to look critically at the maintenance of the places we generate revenue from", he said.

According to him, the information that there were no tour guides at the scene could not be true because some of the eyewitnesses were said to be tour guides.

"I don't think it's true that the Kintampo falls tour guides' work was taken over by some people. Some of the eyewitnesses to the incident in Kintampo were the tour guides themselves", he maintained.
