The National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, has said that the Invincible Force and the Delta Force - two vigilante groups linked to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) - do not exist.

The two groups have been condemned by many Ghanaian for their lawless conduct, which includes forcibly seizing public facilities and offices.

About 13 members of the Delta Force have been arrested by the police for attacking the Ashanti Regional security coordinator, Mr George Agyei, and throwing him out of his office.

The illegal action of the group prompted President Nana Akufo-Addo to assure Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during a recent visit to Kumasi that he will deal with its members.

“There are a few things, Delta [Force] and other issues that are unpleasant, but we are working to deal with those issues to ensure peace and understanding in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, and the whole country.

“I will not ignore such issues. The law applies to everyone in Ghana. I know it is of concern to you, but do not worry, we will ensure that everything is resolved,” the president said.

But briefing parliament on Thursday, Kan Dapaah said notorious vigilante groups Delta, Invisible and the other forces were not registered and therefore did not exist.

He said the groups were merely action groups of party foot soldiers who were perpetuating violence and molesting Ghanaians.

The minister, however, pledged decisive action to get rid the country of such elements.

“There are no legally registered vigilante groups in this country and for that matter, there are no such groups to be disbanded. However, I think we need to be pragmatic and accept that foot soldiers of the leading political parties are known to constitute themselves into action troops to molest and unleash violence on the peace loving people of this country.

“Mr. Speaker we need to stop these groups because they have the tendency to degenerate into militant groups that can have serious repercussions on the security of this country. We must not mix criminality with politics, lawlessness must be punished", he said.
