The Ashanti regional directorate of the Ghana Education Service [GES] has stated that they have not closed down Kumasi Academy over the alleged food poisoning in the school.
There was unrest among students of Kumasi Academy on Friday [31st March 2017] over an alleged food poisoning after the death of three students in the school.
Parents have also stormed the school premises to take their wards home after the incident was reported by the media.
But speaking to Class FM the Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti regional directorate of GES Cassandra Twum Ampofo said the directorate have not closed down the school.

“No, we haven’t closed down the school we have no intention of closing down the schoolâ€.

“There hasn’t be any food poisoning in the school what actually happen on Friday night was that the school driver had an asthmatic patient in the car and they were rushing the student to the hospital and when student saw that and per what had happened, that actually three student have died,they didn’t die on the school compound they fell sick and then they were given first aid ……when they realise that after the death of their friends and someone is been rushed by the driver into the school bus they thought something similar is going to happen so they started shouting that people are dying so they wanted to go home ….so it wasn’t any food poisoning..†she explained.
