Policeman mistakenly shot and killed by patrol team.

Information reaching primenewsghana.com indicates a police patrol team at Kintampo has allegedly shot and killed a fellow police officer by mistake, in a shootout with arm robbers.

The policemen in plain clothing,  was said to have been mistaken for an armed robber when the patrol team arrived at an armed robbery scene.

According to primenewsghana.com sources, preliminary investigations revealed that at about 2.30am Sunday morning, a patrol team on the kintampo - Buipe highway had information, that some armed men had blocked the road between kawampe and Gulumpe .

The team proceeded to the scene and saw about 20 cars parked alongside the road. They manoeuvred to the scene, and a gun battle ensued after the robbers opened fire on the patrol team.

The patrol team spotted a man with a riffle standing in the mist of robbed passengers lying on the ground. Judging him to be part of the robbery squad, they opened fire, hitting him in the thigh.

Few minutes after the shooting, the driver of an O.A bus approached the patrol team and informed them that the police escort for his bus upon hearing of the ambush, had proceeded to the scene to help the victims. He subsequently identified the man with the rifle as the escort.

The wounded policeman and three others who had sustained injuries were rushed to the Kintampo Hospital, but the cop died on arrival. His body was deposited at the mortuary.

Eleven empty AA cartridges were found at the scene. One AK riffle No.172194 and 34mm munitions.
