The Kintampo Waterfalls in the Brong Ahafo region has been closed down indefinitely due to Sunday’s disaster at the tourist site.
Giving reasons for the closure, the Brong Ahafo regional minister Kweku Asomah-Cheremeh said there is need for the falls to see an up lift.
“the falls has been closed down, one of the reason is that we are in a mourning mood, two there is the need to it a proper face lift for some time now it has not been renovated, we have to check on the trees to see which one is fit to be there, which one is not fit and for that should be cleared.†He stated this in an interview with Radio Ghana.
He further spoke of government intervention to help the disaster victims.
“The death was not caused by any individual but it was caused pure accident not influenced by any other activity, a visit to the site reveal that a tree that fell and a killed our brothers and sisters who have pass on have suffered a mark which could have collapsed it at any time.â€
According to him the disaster is no fault of any individual.
“We went to the hospital and visited four of them that were present at the hospital at Kintampo others has been referred to Okomfu Anokye Kumasi, Sunyani hospital, the government of Ghana through Dr Mahamudu Bawumia presented a thousand Ghana Cedis each, paying part of their bill and the government has decided to absolve the bills that our brothers and sisters who were victims of the incident.â€
