The Ministry of Education has released a list of 25 private senior high schools (SHSs) approved for inclusion in the 2025 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) under the Free SHS policy.

This is the first time private SHSs have been incorporated into the Free SHS programme.

The announcement comes alongside an extension of the school selection deadline to Wednesday, 25th June, 2025, to allow students more time to consider their options.

“This extension ensures candidates have ample opportunity to make informed decisions,” said Prince D. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, in an official letter. “We encourage students and parents to review the new additions carefully

In an official notice signed by Prince D. Agyemang-Duah, Director of Schools and Instructions Division, the GES stated: “This extension will allow students and parents to carefully consider these new options before making their final selections.”

The newly approved private schools span across all regions, including notable institutions like Gulf College Japan in Greater Accra, Watkins Academy in Volta Region, and Golden Gate SHS in Western Region. A full list of the approved schools is available for reference.

Regional Directors of Education have been directed to immediately disseminate this information to all JHS heads.

The GES emphasized that while new options have been added, all existing selection guidelines remain unchanged.
