An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced two Kwabenya cell breakers to 66 months in prison.

Kofi Darko was sentenced to 32 months for conspiracy and escape from lawful custody; and Emmanuel Kotey was given a 34-month jail term for the same offences.

The court gave the ruling on Monday, 9 April, after the two out of ten remaining accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Second accused person, Ata Kwadjo; and twelfth accused person, Theophilus Banda, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit crime; and, to escape from lawful custody at the last adjourned date. They were subsequently convicted on their own plea.

It will be recalled that seven suspected criminals broke cell at the Kwabenya police station on Sunday, 21 January 2018.

The seven suspects were assisted by a group of armed robbers who killed an officer on duty during the escape.
