President John Mahama has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), replacing COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The appointment, made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, was confirmed in a statement issued by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Thursday, March 13, 2025

COP Yohuno, a seasoned law enforcement officer with 40 years of service, is expected to lead efforts to modernize and transform the Ghana Police Service.

His appointment comes amid an ongoing lawsuit at the Supreme Court regarding the position of IGP. Despite the legal proceedings, the government has moved forward with the leadership transition, signaling its commitment to reforming the security sector.

Yohuno is expected to be sworn into office on Friday, March 14.
