The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested a man, Coffie Agyemang, for allegedly attempting to sell his three-year-old son for GH¢1 million.
The suspect, who resides in Kwamang, Denkyembour District, Eastern Region, was arrested following intelligence received from the Akwatia Police Division.
According to residents of the community, Agyemang had confided in a friend that he was considering selling his child due to extreme financial hardship.
The friend reported the matter to the police, prompting officers to place the suspect under surveillance.
Police officers reportedly posed as potential buyers and engaged the suspect in discussions.
During these interactions, an amount of GH¢1 million was allegedly agreed upon.
The suspect is said to have brought the child to a prearranged location, where he was arrested.
Further allegations suggest that the suspect may have planned for the child to be killed for ritual purposes, with the body later returned to him to make it appear the child had been murdered elsewhere.
Police say these claims are still under investigation.
Confirming the arrest, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP David Fianko Okyere, stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full details of the case.
