The Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko has refuted claims made by the Minority in Parliament that the Ministry has not made any proposal to the PURC for a reduction in the electricity tariffs.

The Ministry has also described as false an assertion that the PURC is contemplating an increase in electricity tariffs and another claim that government and the ministry are meddling in the affairs of the PURC.

Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko briefing the press, Wednesday, insisted that the Minority Spokesperson on Energy, Adam Mutawakilu, did not verify his claims even though he had ample opportunity and access to all documents and the information he needed.

He further added that Mr. Mutawakilu is not the guardian of truth, as such, what he says cannot be confirmed as true on the basis that he is the Minority spokesperson on Energy.

“With the greatest of respect, the honorable member is not the guardian of truth neither in Parliament nor in the country. He is not the repository of what is true or false. He had ample opportunity and direct access to the information he needed before making those claims but still went ahead to make those claims.”, he stressed.

Mr. Agyarko confirmed that the Ministry sent a proposal to the PURC, and it has been duly responded to.

“The Ministry submitted a proposal to the PURC on the 17th of November, 2017. It is also within his power as a ranking member to chaperone me to the Mines and Energy Commission for such a verification, and failing to do that in itself is an abrogation of responsibility.”

The Energy Ministry earlier released a statement dismissing the claims made by the spokesperson as false and a failure on his part to diligently search for accurate information.
