The Minister of Health has started investigations into intelligence that some trainee nurses paid bribes to gain admission into the various training colleges.

Minister, Kweku Agyemang Manu said an investigative team has been put together to uncover all students who paid bribes for enrollment and also principals and teachers who took the bribes. "We need to enforce strict sanctions so if you pay a bribe and we find you will be sacked. "

Mr Agyemang Manu who spoke during a tour of some agencies under his ministry in the Central region defended the reintroduction of a quota system for Nurses Training Colleges saying it will limit the incidence of bribery and other challenges such as the teacher to student ratio.

In addition, he said teachers at the Colleges will now have more time to effectively combine theory and practicals in order to churn out better nurses.
