The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has highlighted technology driven initiatives aimed at enhancing policing, including the TRAFITECH automated road traffic enforcement system and the National Criminal Automated Biometric Identification System.
Speaking last Friday (Aug 21) at the opening of a Police Regional Command Conference in Accra, he indicated that more than 700 digital enrolment stations are expected to be deployed nationwide by the end of 2026 to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve investigations and support crime prevention.
He said the expansion of the digital enrolment stations formed part of measures to use technology to improve policing and strengthen the ability of the Police Service to prevent and investigate crime.
Mr Mohammed-Mubarak urged Regional Commanders to improve leadership, accountability and professionalism in their respective regions.
He said public expectations of the security services continued to grow and, therefore, required Police commanders to uphold high standards in the discharge of their duties.
Addressing the conference, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said Ghanaians expected a Police Service that was professional, visible, competent, fair and trusted.
Mr Yohuno urged Regional Commanders to provide effective leadership and take decisions that would help improve the Service.
He also called for greater cooperation among the various national security agencies and urged commanders to strengthen engagement to improve security across the country.
The conference was attended by members of the Police Management Board, the Chief Director at the Ministry of the Interior, the Medical Director of the Police Hospital, the Commandant of the Police Academy and Regional Police Commanders from across the country.
