Former Information Minister and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director, Nana Akomea, has officially filed his nomination to contest the position of First Vice Chairman in the party’s upcoming National Executive Elections.
Nana Akomea was the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South from 1997 to 2013. He also served as Minister of Information under former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
He later became the NPP’s Director of Communications and played the same role during the party’s 2016 presidential campaign.
His decision to contest the First Vice Chairman position is seen by political observers as an important move.
The position is considered one of the most influential roles within the party and could give its occupant a stronger position in the NPP’s future leadership.
The NPP is currently preparing for its 2026 National Executive Elections. So far, 13 aspirants are reported to be contesting the party’s three vice-chairmanship positions.
The party has scheduled the vetting of the aspirants for September 1, while the elections are expected to be held in October.
