The National Peace Council (NPC) has appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm following rising political tensions in the country linked to the recent arrests of some political actors.

In a press release issued on May 20, 2026, the Council expressed concern over comments allegedly made by some individuals that are believed to have breached the laws of the country.

The NPC reminded Ghanaians that respect for the rule of law, due process, and constitutional rights are essential pillars of the country’s democracy.

The Council also urged security agencies and judicial institutions to act with impartiality, transparency, and professionalism while protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens.

It further called on political parties, communicators, and commentators to avoid inflammatory and unsubstantiated statements that could incite violence or threaten national stability.

According to the Peace Council, Ghana’s peace and stability depend on the ability of citizens to disagree without resorting to abusive language or violence.

The Council announced that it will soon hold a meeting with political party leaders as part of efforts to find lasting solutions and prevent any escalation of tensions in the country.
