New Abirem: Farmers clash with police ; 5 injured

Some farmers in New Abirem in the Eastern Region have clashed with some police office while demonstrating against mining giant Newmont Ghana Limited.

The Tuesday, 16 October demonstration was over claims that Newmont had taken over their farmlands without compensating them.

The police fired teargas to disperse the crowd.

The organiser of the demonstration, Kofi Deu Kyira disclosed that five people have been left injured. The farmers claim they will continue to demand that the right thing is done by the company.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the area, Osei Frimpong has said he is working hard to bring the situation under control.
