A 36-year-old Nigerian man, Stanley Afaku, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for armed robbery by the Sekondi Circuit Court.

The ruling, delivered by Her Honour Naa Amerley Akowuah on Monday, June 9, 2025, follows an intelligence-led operation by the Western Regional Police.

According to a police statement, Afaku and his accomplice, Samuel Nickson, attacked a security guard at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi.

The incident, which occurred on February 23, 2025, involved the use of a firearm.

The two tied the guard, Nash Arthur, with his shirt, took his phone, broke into the hospital’s pharmacy, and stole a flat-screen TV.

Afaku was arrested on June 4, 2025, at a hideout in Esiama Bafana Ghetto. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and named his accomplice, Samuel Nickson, also known as Agya Acquah.

Nickson is currently facing a separate robbery charge.

Both suspects were arraigned before the Sekondi Circuit Court. Afaku pleaded guilty and was handed a 10-year jail sentence.

After serving his term, he will be deported by the Ghana Immigration Service.

Nickson, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded and is expected to reappear in court on June 24, 2025.

“The court’s decision sends a strong signal that crime will not go unpunished. Our teams will continue working to make our communities safer,” said a police source close to the case.
