The standard of education at both basic and secondary levels keep falling at Obeng Yaw Krom in the Upper West Akeym District of the Eastern Region due to lack of accommodation for teachers in the small town.

The Obeng Yaw Krom Basic School has six teachers but only one stays in the community, the rest lives far away from the town.

Due to this, teachers report to school between the hours of 9 am and 10 am and closes at 1 pm in order to get vehicle to transport them back to their destinations.

The Chief of Obeng Yaw Krom, Nana Obeng Yaw III, who revealed this in an interview with Prime News Ghana, explained that the issue needs urgent attention because children report to school late since the teachers do not come to school early.

He said there have been several appeals to the District Assembly and other philanthropists for the construction of teachers’ bungalow but all the appeals have been in vain.

Nana Obeng Yaw III said there should be a second cycled institution in the community because students from the area trek several kilometres to Adeiso before they can attend a second cycled institution.
