One dead, others injured as two mining groups clashed in Tarkwa

One person has been confirmed dead and others injured after two small-scale mining groups clashed in Tarkwa.

The groups according to reports allegedly belong to mining giant Okobeng Mines Tarkwa and the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources George Mireku Duker.

They are said to be in dispute over a mining concession in Tarkwa. The two rivalry groups met yesterday March 23 amidst gunshots and machete fights.

The leader of the group allegedly belonging to George Mireku Duker was shot dead while the other leader of the group for Okobeng Mines was butchered and rushed to Korle Bu with deep cut wounds in the head.

Others were also injured during the fight.
