A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of an Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra.

According to a press release issued by the Accra Regional Police Command, the officer had been reported missing on July 4, 2025. On July 9, police found a severely burnt body at the aforementioned location and conveyed it to the Police Hospital morgue.

Investigators from the Taifa Police Station, accompanied by the complainant and six family members, visited the morgue. Despite the extent of the burns, the family was able to positively identify the deceased as Stephen King Amoah.

Police investigations revealed that on the evening of July 3, the deceased had left his residence in Ashongman Estate after receiving WhatsApp images showing bundles of cash from one Bright Aweh.

Amoah was allegedly invited to a spot within the same community to collect payment of an outstanding amount. That night, he failed to return home, and his phone was switched off, prompting a missing person report the following day.

Subsequent operations by the police led to the arrest of Bright Aweh. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to giving the deceased an amount of GHS 500,000 and claimed that part of the money was meant to be used to settle debts, while the remainder was to be kept for later collection. However, he failed to explain the source of the funds and gave conflicting accounts during questioning.
