The police have restored calm in Sampa in the Bono Region after renewed chieftaincy disturbances on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, left one person dead and several others injured.

In a statement on Facebook, the Ghana Police Service said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, had deployed reinforcement teams to Sampa and nearby communities. Security has since been tightened, with intensified patrols to protect residents and maintain law and order.

This latest violence comes after a similar incident on March 29, 2024, when four people were killed and several others injured in clashes linked to the Sampa chieftaincy dispute. Among the victims was a 12-year-old boy hit by a stray bullet, who was later referred to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.

The disturbances stem from a long-running rivalry between two claimants to the Sampa stool.
