A man identified as Mr Emmanuel Addai has allegedly bitten off his wife’s ear in a disturbing case of domestic violence at “Wonkayaw,” a community in the Dambai township of the Krachi East Municipality in the Oti Region.
Madam Cecilia Fordjour, the 46-year-old victim, said that her husband bit off her ear during a violent altercation.
According to Madam Fordjour, the incident occurred shortly after she had prepared food for the family and was with the children, when her husband returned from a funeral in the area. She alleged that without any provocation, he demanded that she leave the house immediately, just as she was arranging to serve him food.
She further claimed that the situation escalated and her husband allegedly attacked her, biting off her ear in the process.
Madam Fordjour recounted that when she was taken to a private health facility, the KOPAH Clinic, with the severed ear, medical officials informed her that reattachment was no longer possible because of the delay in seeking medical attention.
The matter has since been reported to the Krachi East Police Command, where investigations are ongoing.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Al-hassan Abdu-Rzak, Divisional Crime Officer of the Dambai Command, confirmed the incident to the GNA.
ASP Abdu-Rzak explained that the woman lodged a complaint at the station, after which her husband also filed a counter-complaint, alleging he had also been assaulted. “Medical forms were issued to both individuals,” he said.
He added that investigations would commence once both parties had been discharged from hospital. “The Police will then review the medical reports and gather further evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” ASP Abdu-Rzak noted.
