The Ghana Police Service has said it is prosecuting some of its officers for reckless use of siren.

According to the Service, the inappropriate use of siren on the roads especially during rush hour amounts to a security threat.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee hearing on plans to curtail the indiscriminate use of the siren, the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu said,  arresting  some of officers  is an indication of the seriousness the outfit has attached to the situation.

"Sometimes it is difficult to determine who is taking advantage of the situation but in recent times, we have arrested some of the police and they have been tried accordingly", he said.

He added that, there have been some reduction in the indiscriminate use of the siren after the arrests, which will continue until the practice is stopped.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Interior has said, it will soon commence recruitment of personnel into various security services in the country.

According to the Deputy Minister for Interior, Henry Quartey, they will ensure that equal opportunity is given to interested persons when the process begins.
