The Ghana Police Service has refuted reports in sections of the media that one of its officers involved in an infraction during the Ablekuma North rerun is facing dismissal.
A statement issued by the police on Friday, August 22 said no such decision has been taken.
“The Ghana Police Service has monitored reports in sections of the media making false claims that one of its officers who was involved in an infraction during the Ablekuma North By-Election is facing dismissal.
“We wish to note that no such decision has been made,” the statement said.
Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service,. ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi further explained that the internal disciplinary procedures of the Ghana Police Service is a quasi-judicial process which outcome must not be pre-determined.
She stressed that the rules of the Service make provision for multiple sanctions and penalties in the event of an officer is involved in a misconduct, noting that a decision as to what sanction should apply if any, is made on a case by case basis and dependent on the disciplinary trial.
“We would like to once again assure the public that the Police Service will continue to follow the due process of the law to ensure justice, law and order,” the statement added.
The police has confirmed that the officer involved in the Ablekuma North infraction has been interdicted and facing the disciplinary committee.
