The Eastern Regional Police Command has announced the closure of the Kukurantumi Police Station and the withdrawal of all personnel following a violent attack by some youth of the town.

The incident occurred on Sunday, September 21, 2025, when a group of youth armed with stones, clubs, and other implements stormed the station and the barracks, attempting to set the building ablaze.

The unrest was triggered by the death of a suspect, Bright Kena, alias D-ball, who had been arrested for unlawful entry and theft. He later died while receiving treatment at the Community Hospital in Kukurantumi.

According to police, reinforcement teams were deployed and managed to restore calm, law, and order. The Police Professional Standards Bureau and the Criminal Investigations Department have begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.

Authorities say video footage of the attack is being reviewed to identify, arrest, and prosecute all perpetrators. Meanwhile, the police have engaged the deceased’s family and community leaders, assuring them of a thorough investigation.

The Command has appealed to the public to use lawful channels to address grievances instead of resorting to violence.
