President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to name his final batch of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCEs) nominees on Wednesday April 26 2017
According to the Deputy Information Minister, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the nominations will be done through the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.
Some political analysts are worried that after a 100 day in office, the President has appointed only four MMDCEs, those for Accra, Kumasi, Tamale and Sekondi-Takoradi. Leaving 212 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) without substantive heads.
They argue this is stalling the implementation of development projects in many parts of the country.
Speaking on Kuul FM in the Volta region Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, explained the President had to conduct an extensive consultations to  ensure appropriate and qualified  persons are given the positions, hence the delay
"He (The President) has been engaged in extensive consultations with chiefs and other key stakeholders in the local areas, so that when he finally announces the names, there will be no agitation from any quarters"
The deputy information Minister assured Ghanaians that by Wednesday,26th of April, the President through the Minister of Local Government will announce the names of nominees for approval by the various MMDAs’.
