Security Expert and Executive Director of Irbard Security Consult, Irbard Ibrahim has said the only way Ghana can curb the recent insecurity in the country is to decouple politics from State security.
Speaking to the issue of  insecurity that has characterized Ghana in recent times,  Mr. Irbard Ibrahim, said the appointment of the various heads of security agencies like the Inspector General of Police, the head of the Bureau of National Investigation, the National Security Coordinator, and the Chief of Defence Staff are all appointed politically by the executive arm of government and by that,  the appointees own allegiance to the President and the incumbent political party.
In an interview with Primenewsghana.com, Security Expert, Irbard Ibrahim opined that; "we should depoliticize state security, so that an IGP (Inspector General of Police) is appointed not only by the executive arm but we can partially push the appointing authority to Parliament so that when we have a multi-party consensus, then the IGP (Inspector General of Police) will be accountable to the state rather than the President and his party"
"He added that President Nana Akufo Addo has everything to prove and nothing to lose, and therefore His Excellency show leadership by taking a bold step to call for an amendment of a legislation surrounding the appointment of security heads. If not, this will be the issue all the time any time a new government comes all the heads of security will be shown the exit and party youth feel they will be protected by party apparatchik anytime they go wrong because the security agencies are answerable to politicians."
Commenting on the latest clash between the Konkombas and Dagombas at the Konkomba Yam Market Agbogbloshie in Accra yesterday April 11 2017,  he said the clash is economically incline than ethnicity and as such people should not link the the clash to issues happening in certain  part of the Northern region.
He added that , a short term remedy to the clash in Agbogbloshie would be for government to economically resolve the situation and get some National security personnel without uniform to mixed up with the people in order to pick up early warning signals and duly advise the state.
