Head Porters (Kayayie) in Kumasi yesterday, Â gave President Nana Akufo-Addo a rousing welcome during his tour of the Ashanti region.
At the Kumasi central market, activities halted because of President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the market, and all Kayayie and market women lined up at the sides of the road to welcome President Akufo-Addo in a grand style.
According to primenewsghana's report, the Akufo-Addo-led administration, through their initial budget, scrapped the tolls ‘Kayayie’ were obligatory to pay for operating in markets and other business centres.
However, in a meeting leadership of market women and Kayayei at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, President Akufo Addo assured market women and kayayei working in Kumasi markets that his government will shut down on task-forces that are allegedly harassing them.
President Akufo-Addo further expressed thanks to the market women and Kayayei for their massive support in the run-up to the just-ended December 2016 election and appealed to them for their continued support throughout his tenure.
