As a result of bloody protest at Foase in the Ashanti Region that led to the death of at least two residents, the traditional council has invited the Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, the DCE of the area, and the Regional Police Commander to outline remedies to arrest the ongoing clash.

According to the Council, the manner in which the relocation of the Atwima Kwanwoma District capital from Foase to Twedie was handled is the main cause of the violence.

The trio, Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, the DCE, and the Regional Police Commander are expected to update the Council on steps taken to avert future protest over the matter.

Prime News has learnt that the row over the relocation of the capital of the Atwima Kwanwoma District dates back to 2012 when the Supreme Court of Ghana instructed it to be moved from Foase to Twedie.

Foase had served as the capital of the district since 2008 when it was whittled out of the then Bosomtwe Atwima Kwanwoma District by the past President Kufuor’s government in 2007.

However, the Supreme Court ruling was not implemented until a new Legislative Instrument (L.I) was laid in Parliament in 2017 to properly site the capital at Twedie.

Retorting to the development, Deputy Local Government Minister O.B Amoah cleared the government of any wrongdoing, saying it only took steps to implement the Court's ruling.

He then assured Ghanaians the Local Government Ministry will engage with opinion leaders in Foase and Twedie to find amicable ways to settle the issue.
