Six people, including a three-month-old baby, have died after a fire gutted an apartment at Abuakwa Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

The Assembly Member for Abuakwa Manhyia, Evans Opoku, confirmed the tragedy in an interview.

He said the incident was reported to him shortly after electricity was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary power outage on Sunday evening.

Firefighters from the Nkawie and Twedie stations were deployed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control.

However, the victims were reportedly trapped inside the apartment when the fire broke out.

Police have since identified the charred bodies and are making arrangements to convey them to the morgue, while investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
