A six-year-old girl has died after she reportedly drowned in an uncovered septic tank at Liberty Estate in Gbetsile while looking for water.
The sad incident happened on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The girl, identified as Abi, is said to have gone out to fetch water near a neighbour’s house due to the ongoing water shortage in the area.
According to residents, Abi accidentally fell into the uncovered septic tank and drowned before anyone could rescue her.
The incident has left many people in the community heartbroken and angry, with residents blaming the tragedy on the lack of regular water supply in the area.
Some residents said children are often forced to move from one house to another in search of water, exposing them to danger.
“This beautiful soul has been lost simply because there is no water,” one resident said.
Community members are now calling on authorities to urgently fix the water problem and ensure that dangerous structures like septic tanks are properly covered to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
