A passenger train operating on the Tema–Accra line derailed on Thursday morning after colliding with stray cattle at Avenor in Accra.

The accident occurred around 7:30 a.m. shortly after the train departed the Avenor station heading towards Odaw Station.

Reports indicate that two cows strayed onto the railway track and were hit by the moving train, causing some of the carriages to derail.

The incident forced the suspension of train services, leaving several commuters stranded and unable to continue their journey.

Passengers on board were asked to disembark for safety following the derailment.
