The world celebrates International Water Day today [Wednesday], March 22, under the theme ‘Water and Waste Water’ as a mean to draw attention to the conservation of our water bodies.
The 22nd of March of every year has been set aside by the United Nations to help protect the water bodies in the world.
In commemorating the day, the Executive secretary of the Water Resource Commission, Ben Ampomah says there is the need for Ghana to protect its water bodies and also handle waste water effectively.
“Basically it is on the theme 'Water and Waste Water'. It's something we will need to think of as a country and also to address especially with respect to attaining some aspect of the goals 6 which has to do with water. That is one of the saddest. [has to do with]. The fact that we need to ensure that we properly manage the waste produced out of water", he stated in an interview with Radio Ghana.
According to him, waste water can be used in various means to the benefit of our country.
“Waste water has two faces, one it can lead to pollution and two it is a valuable resources so we need to tackle it in two faces one it can be used to reduce pollution and two to make it a valuable resource for other purposes lie irrigation, for energy production, for industrial use…â€
