Salifu Maase aka Mugabe, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson, collectively known as the Montie trio, were  on Friday, August 26, released from jail after serving one month of their sentence.

The release of the trio who were sentenced to a four-month jail term for making contemptuous against the Supreme Court came after their sentences were remitted by President John Mahama in consultation with the Council of State and were given a heroes welcome.

However, Dr Jemima Nunoo, a lecturer at the GIMPA Business School, has criticised the rousing welcome the trio were given upon their release saying there was no need for the fanfare that greeted them.

Speaking on Joy FM's Newsfile on Saturday, she said, "I don't see why the three men were released to a fanfare".

"The gentlemen were being celebrated like they've achieved a great feat" but they have not, she added.

Supporting Dr Nunoo's observation, Ace Ankomah, a private legal practitioner, stated "The trio could have respected the office of the President and have a rather low key address".

"I think that the spontaneity could have been controlled", Mr Ankomah added.
