Gov’t to pay nurses trainee allowance arrears this week

Public Relations Officer, PRO, of Ministry of Health Robert Cudjoe has assured trainee nurses and midwives that Government will by the close of this week pay their three months allowance arrears.

Robert Cudjoe said the ministry was expecting the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to release funds for their November and December allowances, but a new system introduced called the definite platform through which all institutions received their pay has delayed the process of paying the trainees.

According to him, hopefully by the close of this week funds will be released to pay the trainees.

The National Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association, Akugri Gadafi said the delay in payment is making their school life difficult.

According to him, they have complained to the Health Ministry on several occasions and they keep on giving them assurances but it has gotten to a point that they no longer know what to do.

Government restores nurses and midwives trainee allowances

The President has officially launched the restoration of the trainee allowance.

Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, Nana Akufo-Addo said for the 2017/2018 academic year, effective September 2017, fifty-eight thousand health trainees, comprising nurses and midwives, will be paid their allowances of four hundred Ghana Cedis. This means Government will spend a total of 232,000,00 Ghana Cedis for this academic year.
