Two people have perished while three others sustained life-threatening injuries after an old story building collapsed on them during Saturday’s early morning downpour in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The disaster occurred adjacent the famous London Bridge in Cape Coast.
The victims were trapped under the rubbles for hours before they were rescued by a joint team of police, NADMO and the Ghana National Fire Service.
A police source said they received a call concerning the incident at 0530 hours and rushed to the scene.
They were later joined by the NADMO and Fire Service teams to proceed with the search.
They managed to rescue three people alive but the two other victims were found dead. The last person was found dead around 1440 hours.
The survivors were sent to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and responding to treatment, the source said.
As a safety precaution, officials from NADMO and the Fire Service are currently demolishing the remaining parts of the building to avert any further risk to lives or property.
