The one week memorial of the passing of the late Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko on Wednesday witnessed mourners from all walks of life.
The Grace Congregation of the Presbyterian Church, at West Legon, was filled to capacity as mourners turned up to grieve.
The demise of the late Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon last week shook the nation.
Prominent among the sea of mourners were President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; the Speaker of Parliament Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye; Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Majority and Minority Leaders of Parliament, respectively.
His fellow MPs across the political divide, and indeed, residents from all walks of life, attended the requiem in solemnity.
They were there to share in the pain of the family, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Parliament and Ghanaians in general, for the loss of the legislator, described 'as affable' in many circles, and to receive comforting words in the House of God from, the Reverend Dr Abanfo Ofori Atiemo.
The scripture reading was taken from Job 14:1-12, where, in summary Job, a faithful servant of God, who underwent many suffering and trials , declared that 'death comes to all', and that 'man born of a woman is full of trouble'.
'He comes out like a flower and withers like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not…'
And in the homily, Rev Dr Atiemo, who presided over the service, exhorted mankind to work diligently during the day because the night would follow, when it would be difficult or impossible to discharge one's obligations to society and God.
Rev Dr Atiemo recalled how Jesus used his ministry to attend to the needs of mankind, and urged the mourners to be at the service of people to the glory of God.
He cautioned against using one's position to take advantage of the vulnerable, but rather to be the eyes to the blind, the ears to the deaf and arms to those without limbs.
There were song ministrations, and prayers were said for the family and all the loved ones of the deceased.
Kyeremateng Agyarko died on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at a hospital in the United States, where he had gone to seek medical care.
Mr Agyarko who was married with seven children, had represented Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency since 2013, taking the baton from the current Chief of Staff, Frema Opare.
