Policy think tank, Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) has opined that the unacceptable method of operation by Vigilante groups in Ghana is a miniature of extremist groups gaining grounds in Ghana.

“Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) view this unscrupulous act as a totally unacceptable modus operandi. Vandalizing the office of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in addition to the vicious beating of the security coordinator is beyond imagination. This is undoubtedly a microcosm of terrorist groups and we must begin to shun these groups in the interest of the country.”

Per Primenewsghana’s earlier report, over 100 members of the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) affiliated vigilante group Delta Force on Friday March 23 2017, attacked the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Adjei, in an attempt to expel him from his office.

The Ashanti Region based vigilante group of the ruling NPP wants their favourite, a man identified only as Mohammed, to be appointed as Regional Security Coordinator.

However, in a statement signed by Executive Director of STRANEK, Nii Tettey Tetteh read; “This flagitious act which is trending on the international media, traditional media and social media must be dealt with stringent hands. Arresting the leader of the vigilante group is not enough. Such terrorist germinating groups must be banned in this country. The prima facie video footage is a solid rock to expedite action against those groups.”

STRANEK, a think tank that hold the security of Ghana in high esteem through advocacy and research, in their statement professed that, the incident that occurred on Friday March 23 2017 is the second attack on Ghana’s security apparatus after ASP Nii Nankan Bruce was assaulted at the flagstaff house, and as such, if the government refuse to act as swift as possible,

“Ghana’s security apparatus will be thrown to the dogs leading to the wobbling nature of the security of Ghanaians.”
