The Minority in Parliament has taken a swipe at the demeanour of the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Oquaye, and threatened to initiate impeachment processes against him.

According to Minority chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak, the Speaker has since the inception of the 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic, been bias towards the Majority. He claimed Rt. Hon. Prof. Oquaye has on several occasions denied the Minority the opportunity to speak or question public officials who have appeared before the house.

The Asewase lawmaker’s comments follow an incident that occurred on the floor of Parliament on Thursday when the Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto appeared before the house to answer questions relating to the Planting for Food and Jobs campaign.

In the heat of the question and answer session, only Mubarak Muntaka was allowed as one of the leaders of the Minority to ask a question. This was vehemently protested by the minority, forcing the speaker to allow Minority leader Haruna Iddrissu to also ask a question. The speaker, however directed him to ask only one question.

This did not go down well with Mr Idrisu who said he had many questions to ask, especially on efforts to fight the fall army worm invasion in some parts of the country. The minority leader in protest refused to ask any question at all.

This infuriated the Muntaka Mubarak who accused the speaking of being persistently biased against the minority, some other MP of the side walked out of the chamber in protest.
