The Motor Traffic Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has stated that it shall sell off seized motorbikes from unofficial motor riders who have failed to submit relevant documentation over the years to retrieve their property.

On September Tuesday 6, the MTTD carried out an operation in parts of Accra during which a total of 270 motorbikes were seized from their riders who were not eligible to ride because of expired licenses or lack of it.

In an interview with Onua FM, Commander of the MTTD, ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong said “most police stations are crowded with several motor bikes because some riders do not come at all when we arrest them but this time, we shall auction these motorbikes in two week’s time.”

ACP Adusei Sarpong disclosed that the police service is in need of spaces at police stations nationwide to continue arresting unauthorized riders. He advised that owners of motorbikes confiscated at any police station have two weeks ultimatum to present themselves or risk having their bikes auctioned after they have secured a court order.

“We need the spaces to park the motors after the exercises so we shall send those we arrested yesterday to court today, tomorrow and Friday and that we shall continue to enforce the laws until the motor riders adhere to the laws of this land,” he cautioned.
